I've heard that women who have heart attacks exhibit their clotting (?) in different areas than men who have heart attacks. The idea goes that men get clots in big vessels and arteries and women get multiple clots in smaller secondary tubes. Perhaps Aspirin as a blood thinner is more effective in big tubes than in the small ones. A thought that is worth exploring...again, give me a source and I'll try to follow up.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07199008452844160143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678180057425415168.post-51031762681462813192007-10-22T16:47:00.000-04:002007-10-22T16:47:00.000-04:00Re: the naval thing - ya, it's always good when go...Re: the naval thing - ya, it's always good when government-paid boats are involved with constructive, rather than destructive, efforts.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07199008452844160143noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678180057425415168.post-6374940672661098262007-10-22T16:46:00.000-04:002007-10-22T16:46:00.000-04:00The idea being what? However, because it is undeniable that these schools offer a better education to its students (tests can prove it), I don't think its fair for us to critisize them until the public school system is up to par. And where do we draw the line between what private schools (religous or not) should be funded and which shouldn't?

Could it be a better alternative to give tax breaks to students who attend private schools?

Oh no, I think I sound like a conservative.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05480898408685200785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678180057425415168.post-64513964253213914012007-05-15T00:59:00.000-04:002007-05-15T00:59:00.000-04:00My response to previous comment:It's your last poi...My response to previous comment:

It's your last point that's really the big one for me - the fact that so many political decisions are so misunderstood by the general public is frustrating. Though I put just as much blame on most individuals for not being more aware of issues that affect them - it's still unfortunate that decent knowledge transfer isn't really part of the government package these days.

Yes the potential for opening up a scary pandora's box for special interest is completely there, and that's probably the biggest reason I can't see something like legally binding referendums actually being practical here at home. While there maybe better ways of going about doing this - at the end of the day I guess I'm most interested in finding more ways to step up the pressure on politicians to better educate the public on major policy initiatives beyond the quick sound bites & largely uninformative shots at their oppoents we're constantly flooded with.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05480898408685200785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678180057425415168.post-26912750378067002322007-05-15T00:58:00.000-04:002007-05-15T00:58:00.000-04:00This comment came from somebody responding to this...This comment came from somebody responding to this on Facebook:

All I can imagine is a mosaic of special interest groups striking down bills that don't benefit them because they understand it and can explain it in a manner that makes people empathetic to their cause.

Accountability- I don't even consider it an issue. Harper's government learned from the Americans that the best form of political warfare is called "investigation". You don't really have to be responsible for what happened, and nothing even need have happened. So long as there is some form of investigation the effect is the same as being guilty.

The only thing that the liberals did that ever had a HUGE effect on us, from a "scandal" perspective, was the Income Trust debacle. Too bad that isn't still making headlines becuase contrary to Adscam, it will have long lasting effects that arent immediately visible to the public. Hence, under the rug.

Unfortunately, I think that a lot of decisions that are made by politicians in general are completely misunderstood by the public eye.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05480898408685200785noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678180057425415168.post-62675227400216819132007-05-15T00:49:00.000-04:002007-05-15T00:49:00.000-04:00From Dr Ramzy Galil, University of Western Ontario...From Dr Ramzy Galil, University of Western Ontario Medical School & Canadian Armed Forces:

I totally agree with this sentiment, Bry. To add: I have always been upset with the quality of debate around tuition fees for Medical School - sure they are in the range of $17,000 per year (at least in Ontario) but so often I have heard these costs being framed as an access issue.

But a medical degree virtually guarantees an ability to pay off all loans as well (more importantly?) guarantees employment for life. Those who have already invested the time, effort, and energy to meet all criteria for medical school acceptance, are not -- acceptance letter in hand -- going to say "well, I'm going to turn this down as it's just too darn expensive, despite all my hard work and money getting an undergraduate degree."

My only point is -- access to medical school is not about med-school tuition costs. Rather, access to medical school is a direct reflection of barriers to undergraduate education. Fix that, and we've gone a long way to fixing access issues in areas of medical education as wellAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05480898408685200785noreply@blogger.com
